Buildings and Grounds Department

The Copenhagen Central School District Buildings and Grounds Department plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, clean, attractive, and efficient learning environment for students, staff, and visitors. Under the leadership of Chris Berry, Buildings and Grounds Supervisor, the department is responsible for the daily operation, maintenance, repair, and improvement of district facilities and grounds.

The department works year-round to ensure that all school buildings, athletic facilities, and outdoor spaces are properly maintained and ready to support educational, extracurricular, and community activities.

Responsibilities of the Buildings and Grounds Department

  • Building maintenance and repairs
  • Preventative maintenance of facility systems and equipment
  • Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) operations
  • Plumbing and electrical maintenance
  • Custodial services and daily cleaning of district facilities
  • Grounds maintenance, mowing, landscaping, and beautification
  • Snow and ice removal from parking lots, sidewalks, and entrances
  • Athletic field preparation and maintenance
  • Playground and outdoor facility inspections
  • Safety inspections and compliance monitoring
  • Building security support and facility access management
  • Event setup and support for school and community activities
  • Capital project coordination and facility improvements
  • Management of district vehicles, equipment, and maintenance tools
  • Energy conservation and efficiency initiatives
