New Section 926 of the Education Law, which became effective on July 1, 2026, requires districts to:

• Starting with the 2026-2027 school year, provide information on water safety to parents and guardians regarding drowning prevention, water safety, and safe and healthy swimming, either electronically or in paper form;
• After the 2026-2027 school year, provide this information to all parents and guardians of newly enrolled students in the district, or directly to new students that are aged 18 or older;
• Upon request, provide translated documents in the 12 most common non-English languages; and
• Post water safety information on their website in a clearly visible and accessible location.
