Copenhagen Central School

Resting between the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains and the Tug Hill Plateau is a scenic village rich in history and tradition.  Copenhagen, New York is also a place that holds education in high esteem for all members of the learning community. 

Copenhagen Central is a Kindergarten through Twelfth grade system, housed in one building, located in the heart of the village.  This District covers 125 square miles located in Jefferson and Lewis Counties, neighboring the Watertown, Lowville, Carthage and South Jefferson school districts. 

Over 125 teachers and support staff members serve the learning needs of the 640 students enrolled.  The school setting offers small class sizes, which enable dedicated staff to provide each student with individual attention.  It also provides an environment that values students' individual talents and abilities.

The original building was erected in 1936 when the district centralized.  With increased enrollment and programs offered, recent building projects have enabled Copenhagen to offer some of the most modern and technologically equipped facilities in the North Country.  These facilities include an architecturally appealing K-12 library, two gymnasiums, new performing and visual arts classrooms, a distance learning room, three computer labs, and most recently, several multi-media wired classrooms.
